NWS Holdings' publications win international Mercury Awards in New York

12.03.2005

(12 March 2005, Hong Kong) NWS Holdings Limited’s (“NWS Holdings” or the “Group”; 0659.HK) publications have won awards at the International Mercury Awards 2004 for excellence in professional communications for the second consecutive year. The Group is honoured with a silver award for its corporate brochure, a bronze award for its quarterly newsletter – New Voice and honours for its Annual Report 2004. The Group’s Annual Report 2003 also received three awards last year.

Mr K L Chan, Chief Executive Officer of NWS Holdings, said, “The winning of the awards is a testimony to the Group’s effective communications. We recognize the annual reports, corporate brochure and newsletters as important communication tools with our stakeholders, ensuring that they are kept abreast of corporate information and key developments within the Group. We are proud to win the Mercury Awards again this year and will continue to maintain a high standard of transparency and effective communications.”

The publications of NWS Holdings show the Group’s dedication to long-term, sustainable growth. With the aid of the corporate brochure, NWS Holdings communicates its mission, vision and core values as well as its commitment to evolving into a well-diversified and forward-looking company after reorganization to its stakeholders. By using a triple arrow [>>>] on the cover and repeating the word “Focus” to connect the chapters, the corporate brochure emphasizes how NWS Holdings is seeking to accelerate its growth and returns. Each section of the brochure is punctuated by three thought-provoking stories that illustrate how the Group is an intrinsic part of people’s lives in Hong Kong, Mainland China and Macau.

NWS Holdings’ quarterly newsletter – New Voice, in a bid to enhance internal communication and promote sense of belonging, highlights the Group’s corporate culture, which emphasizes the value of people and commitment to community care, by covering major news of the Group, interviews with top management and general staff, achievements of teamwork, the Group’s efforts in nurturing talent as well as its dedication to corporate volunteering.

In addition to the tagline “Driving Forward, Seeking Excellence”, three green traffic lights are shown on the cover of NWS Holdings’ Annual Report 2004 to symbolize ambition and progression of the Group’s three main business divisions - Service, Infrastructure and Ports. Throughout the report, various charts, maps and graphics are used to report the Group’s financial information, ensuring that the information is presented in a readable manner.

The Mercury Awards, organized by MerComm, Inc., is considered as the most highly respected and prestigious by industry peers. With 800 entries from 14 countries, the awards were judged by a panel of judges made up of communication specialists all over the world, whose professionalism ensured the competition’s long-standing tradition of impartiality and integrity.
