NWS Holdings and 16 member companies recognized as caring companies

(14 February 2006, Hong Kong) NWS Holdings Limited (“NWS Holdings” or the “Group”, Hong Kong stock code: 0659) and its 16 member companies received the Caring Company logo from Hong Kong Council of Social Service yesterday (photo 1), representing its commitment in corporate social responsibility across different businesses.

It is the fourth year NWS Holdings receives this recognition. The Group was nominated by three social service organizations this year, namely Hong Kong YWCA, Hans Andersen Club and The ABM Hong Kong Swatow Baptist Church Community Service Association. Mr Tsang Yam Pui, Executive Director and Chairman of Corporate Social Responsibility Committee of NWS Holdings, said this recognition represented the Group’s efforts in capitalizing on its service excellence to serve the community. One good example was NWSH Caring Day 2006 held in mid January, in which the Corporate Office and member companies carried out community services across 18 districts in Hong Kong. “We hope to promote this caring spirit to more business units, and even those in Mainland China,” added Mr Tsang.

Green Kindergarten Network

Launched in April 2005, Green Kindergarten Network welcomes all kindergartens to join as members free of charge. In the kick-off ceremony, over 3,100 students and teachers from 65 kindergartens produced the world’s largest handprint painting that has broken the Guinness World Records. Educational kits were published to provide innovative and practical methods on teaching environmental education in kindergartens. About 200 teachers were trained to conduct environmental education in public parks in various training workshops. Besides, a total of nearly 200 children learnt the environmental practices in businesses through visits to bus depot and plant nursery of subsidiary companies of NWS Holdings. Two Green Buses, decorated from two double-deckers of New World First Bus and Citybus respectively, were also launched to spread green message across the territory.
