NWS Holdings honoured the Total Caring Award by HKCSS

(10 February 2009, Hong Kong) NWS Holdings Limited (“NWS Holdings” or the “Group”; Hong Kong stock code: 659) received the Total Caring Award granted by The Hong Kong Council of Social Service (“HKCSS”) at the Caring Company Recognition Ceremony 2008/09 on 10 February 2009, representing its strong commitment in corporate social responsibility across different businesses.


Mr Patrick Lam, Executive Director of NWS Holdings said the Group is honoured to receive the Total Caring Award which represented the Group’s commitment of caring for the staff and capitalizing on its strengths and resources to remunerate the community. Mr Lam also thanked the contribution from staff in upholding corporate social responsibility (CSR) and pledged to continue adopting corporate social responsibility principles in the future.


Mr Tsang Yam Pui, Executive Director and Chairman of Corporate Social Responsibility Committee of NWS Holdings stressed the importance of adopting CSR with sincerity and the need for a company to do what it is capable of for the community. NWS Holdings has adopted a two-prong approach to promote CSR among its 20,000-strong workforce. Firstly, in a top-down approach, representatives of NWS Corporate Office and member companies form the NWS Volunteer Alliance Committee to plan and organize voluntary activities and to promote the participation by subsidiary companies. The second prong is a bottom-up approach which involves frontline members of the NWS Volunteer Alliance, who through their participation in CSR activities motivate other colleagues, including their supervisors and directors, to join in these activities.


The Total Caring Award is a recognition to outstanding corporate that has demonstrated caring on “Volunteering”, “Employee friendly”, “Employing vulnerable”, “Caring for the environment”, “Mentoring” and “Giving”. Corporate nominated for the Total Caring Award must fulfill more than 21 items in the above six areas.


NWS Holdings encourages staff to participate in volunteer services. Since NWS Volunteer Alliance was formed seven years ago, over 1,600 staff and their family members have become members. The Group also provides 5-day week and paternity leave; as well as organizes activities for employees and their families and sets up the NWS Holdings Charities Foundation to subsidize community welfare, environmental protection, educational and health care projects. The “NWS Hong Kong Geo Wonders Hike” fully supported by NWS Holdings Charities Foundation has also aroused public awareness on geological conservation.


In the same occasion, eight member companies receive 5 Years Plus Caring Company Logo, five member companies receive 5 Consecutive Years Caring Company Logo and eight member companies receive Caring Company Logo 2008/09 (see attachment).
