(24 May 2010, Hong Kong) NWS Holdings Limited (“NWS Holdings” or the “Group”; Hong Kong stock code: 659) through its joint venture Sino French Water Development Company Limited, together with Chongqing Water Group and Changshou Chemical Industrial Park Development and Construction Company Ltd., has secured a new 50-year concession for industrial water services in Chongqing Changshou Chemical Industrial Park (“CCCIP”) via a new joint venture of the three parties. The effective shareholding by NWS Holdings is 25.52%.
Located in the northeast of Chongqing Municipality, CCCIP is planned by the Central Government to be one of the biggest bases of chemical industry and new energy in western China, covering a total area of 31.3 sq km at its first stage. Since its construction in 2003, there have been 90 enterprises in the park, among which 13 companies are Fortune 500 of the world. The park aims to become the important base for the development of the industry in Three Gorges Reservoir Area of the Yangtze River, one of the national pilot zones of circular economy and an integrated chemical industrial park with industries of gas chemical, petrochemical, bio-chemical, fine chemical and new materials.
The new joint venture will provide quality industrial water production, distribution, industrial effluents collection and treatment services to all companies in the park. Upon completion of the project, the industrial water production capacity will reach 240,000 cubic meters per day and effluents treatment 40,000 cubic meters per day in order to provide the public support to the upcoming projects development.
Through Sino-French Holdings (Hong Kong) Limited, NWS Holdings invests in 23 water treatment projects, a sludge treatment plant, an operation & management consulting company and a waste incineration plant in Mainland China and Macau. They can treat up to 6.80 million cubic metres of water and waste water per day, 540 tonnes of sludge per day and 60,000 tonnes of waste per year. The Group also holds stake in a 61-hectare landfill in Hong Kong and one strategic investment in Chongqing.
