(28 November 2011, Hong Kong) NWS Hong Kong Geo Wonders Hike 2011-12 organized by NWS Holdings Limited (“NWS Holdings” or the “Group”; Hong Kong stock code: 659) held its kick-off ceremony cum Sai Kung Geoconservation Walk yesterday with over 2,000 local citizens participated in this year’s first public guided tour at Pak Tam Chung. Patrick Lam and Tommy Cheung, Executive Directors of NWS Holdings, Joseph Shum, Assistant Director (Country & Marine Parks) of Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (“AFCD”), Young Ng, Chairman of Association for Geoconservation, Hong Kong (“AGHK”), as well as ambassadors Dr Rebecca Lee Lok Sze and Chung Kin Man officiated at the kick-off ceremony. A prize presentation ceremony for the bus body design competition was also held on the event day, and the artworks of the champions were displayed on the bus bodies.
At the ceremony, Patrick Lam, Executive Director of NWS Holdings, said, “As the first corporation to organize public guided tours since 2008, we are proud to witness the significant milestone of the establishment of Hong Kong National Geopark which has now become a Global Geopark.” Two thousand enrolment quotas of the first public guided tour were quickly filled up within two days, recognizing the Group’s effort in raising public’s awareness of geoconservation and appreciation of Hong Kong’s natural landscape.
Charity sale was held at Wong Shek Pier, the finishing point of the tour. The funds raised from the sale would be donated to NWS Holdings Charities Foundation Limited in support of social welfare, environmental protection, education and healthcare.
The Sai Kung Geoconservation Walk set off from Pak Tam Chung, passing through Pak Tam Au, To Kwa Peng and finishing at Wong Shek Pier. Participants enjoyed a three-hour hike where interpretation on geoconservation was provided at each checkpoint along the route.
