(31 January 2013, Hong Kong) NWS Holdings Limited (“NWS Holdings” or “the Group”; Hong Kong stock code: 659) and its member companies won multiple accolades from the Take a “Brake” ─ Corporate Green Driving Award Scheme organised by Friends of the Earth (HK). These awards included Highest Sustained Fuel Consumption Saver, Gold Award for Fuel Efficiency Improvement and Gold Award for Fuel Consumption Saver.
Over the period of the scheme, the car fleets of the Corporate Office of NWS Holdings, New World First Ferry Services Limited and Vibro (H.K.) Limited reduced fuel consumption per kilometre by over 5% and total fuel consumption by over 20%, thus winning six gold awards in two categories. Hip Hing Construction Company Limited was awarded Highest Sustained Fuel Consumption Saver by having the highest year-on-year fuel reduction among all participating companies. In addition, New World Development Company Limited garnered Most Significant Fuel Efficiency Improvement ─ first runner-up for attaining 23.8% improvement in fuel efficiency.
As part of its continuous effort in supporting sustainable development, the Group encouraged its subsidiaries and staff members to follow Friends of the Earth (HK)’s green driving guidelines, which cover keeping a steady speed, making efficient use of company vehicles, decelerating smoothly and cutting down on luggage to raise energy efficiency and reduce engine load and emissions.
