NWS Holdings and Hans Andersen Club launch Fairy Bus Programme Children Encouraged to Turn Dreams into Reality

(27 July 2014, Hong Kong) Close to 600 children and their parents attended yesterday’s Fairy Bus Carnival launch ceremony; an event jointly organised by NWS Holdings Limited (“NWS Holdings” or “the Group”; Hong Kong stock code: 659) and Hans Andersen Club. Participants took part in a number of dream-themed reading and writing workshops and games, as well as boarding a Citybus-turned Fairy Bus for a treasure hunt. Thirty winners of the Dream Sharing Writing Contest – selected from a total of over 1,400 entrants – were recognised for their creativity at the award ceremony. Some of the young authors have been selected to appear in a video showing on New World First Bus and Citybus fleets during July and August.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of NWS Holdings and the Hans Andersen Club joining hands to better serve the community. In celebration of the milestone, a series of events are taking place this summer under the theme of “A Journey to Realising Dreams” aimed at inspiring children to pursue their passions. At the ceremony, Fairy Bus Programme Ambassador, Yip Pui Yin, shared the story of her inspiring journey to become a top ranked badminton star. Yip Pui Yin revealed her motto, “never give up on your dreams,” to encourage youngsters to strive for excellence and fulfil their ambitions.

Patrick Lam, Executive Director of NWS Holdings, spoke of the close collaboration between the Group and the Hans Andersen Club over the past 10 years. He highlighted the importance of the Fairy Mentorship Programme, which gives children the opportunity to build positive values by learning from the Group’s corporate volunteers. “We wish to pass on our successful experience in the Fairy Mentorship to help more children in need. Through a series of games and reading activities at the Fairy Bus events, we encourage children to develop positive attitude and pursue their dreams,” he explained.

May Wong, Executive Director of Hans Andersen Club, thanked NWS Holdings and its corporate volunteers for their efforts in mentoring underprivileged children through storytelling. “As the partnership enters its 11th year, we hope to develop more creative ideas that can benefit children in need and align them with the knowledge-based society,” said Wong.

The second Fairy Bus Carnival will be held on 9 August in Tai Po, New Territories and is expected to attract over 1,000 children and their families. The Fairy Bus will travel around Hong Kong until the end of August. Members of the public are encouraged to upload a snapshot of the dream-themed vehicle to www.facebook.com/fairybus for getting a chance to win a prize.
