NWS Holdings holds Integration Carnival for the Mentally Disabled Students

(16 February 2014, Hong Kong) NWS Holdings Limited (“NWS Holdings” or the “Group”; Hong Kong stock code: 659) yesterday hosted the NWS Caring Day 2014 to celebrate the 11th anniversary of its First Trading Day. Under the theme “Rainbow Spreads”, an integration carnival was held in Tai Po. About 400 participants, including the Group’s management, corporate volunteers, and mentally disabled students with their parents, gathered to celebrate the Group’s listing milestone through community service and promote social integration.

NWS Caring Day 2014 served students with mentally disability and their families who come from HKSYC&IA Chan Nam Chong Memorial School (“Chan Nam Chong Memorial School”) and Sam Shui Natives Association Lau Pun Cheung School. The carnival featured game stalls designed by member companies of the Group, including Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (Management) Limited, Hip Hing Construction, Vibro (H.K.), New World Construction, New World First Bus and Citybus, and New World First Ferry. While enjoying the games, which included ferry simulation and bus stop matching, the students and families could learn more about the Group’s business. Corporate volunteers from NWS Volunteer Alliance staged a talent show and demonstrated their skills in music, dance, balloon-modelling and clown performances. The fun-filled day concluded with a barbeque lunch.

At the opening ceremony, Tsang Yam Pui, Executive Director and Chairman of the Corporate Social Responsibility Committee of NWS Holdings, remarked, “NWS Holdings is committed to corporate social responsibility and has established various community programmes to give back to society. A case in point is our annual signature programme, NWS Caring Day, which also commemorates the Group’s listing anniversary. The theme of this year’s carnival stems from our ‘Rainbow Haircut Project’, which is co-organised with Chan Nam Chong Memorial School. We hope that our support can bring colour to the lives of the students and their parents, while our volunteers can feel rewarded through helping others.”

Chan Nam Chong Memorial School, the event co-organiser, is one of the beneficiary organisations of NWS Holdings Charities Foundation. Since 2012, the school has been sponsored to run a volunteer programme “Rainbow Haircut Project”, which covers haircutting training, outward bound, and haircutting services. Corporate volunteers from NWS Volunteer Alliance coach parents of mentally disabled students on haircutting skills and join hands with them to provide free haircutting services to rehabilitants in need.

NWS Volunteer Alliance, which comprises staff members from all grades of the Group, has been the pillar of the Group’s community services and annual NWS Caring Day since its inception in 2001. Over the years, the volunteer team has accumulated more than 110,000 hours in community service and formed diverse interest groups in areas such as haircutting, clown performances, balloon modelling and dancing. The handcrafting team, which was established last year, applied their skills at today’s event by making “Lucky Bags” for the beneficiaries.
