NWS Holdings releases Sustainability Report 2015

12.01.2016

(12 January 2016, Hong Kong) NWS Holdings Limited (“NWS Holdings” or the “Group”; Hong Kong stock code: 659) has published its second standalone Sustainability Report, detailing the progress and performance of the Group’s Hong Kong operations in the period from 1 July 2014 to 30 June 2015 (“FY2015”). The yearly report covers corporate governance, economic, environment, labour practices, human rights, society and product responsibility. The report is compiled in accordance with the Core option of Global Reporting Initiative G4 Sustainability Reporting Guidelines and makes reference to the Environmental, Social and Governance Reporting Guide of the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Limited.

Tsang Yam Pui, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of Corporate Social Responsibility Committee of NWS Holdings, said, “Corporate sustainability is a core element of NWS Holdings’ growth strategy. It strengthens our ability to outperform the market and deliver long-term value, beyond financial return, to our shareholders and stakeholders. As we progress along the journey of enhancing our sustainability performance, this report serves to underline our continuous effort to exceed stakeholder expectations on corporate transparency and accountability.”

Report Highlights:

  • The Group's business is undergoing a steady growth and expansion. Starting from February 2015, we started our aircraft leasing business and have increased the fleet size from 27 to over 50. As well as expanding the business, the Group has been committed to increasing our contribution to the community. Our corporate volunteer team, NWS Volunteer Alliance, has delivered more than 135,000 hours of community service throughout the past 14 years, whilst the NWS Holdings Charities Foundation, established in 2006, has donated approximately HK$18 million up to FY2015 to support community programmes in welfare, education, health care and environmental protection.
  • The Group has always endeavoured to promote environmental protection and conservation. In the reporting period, a number of environmental initiatives have been implemented, such as introducing more environmentally friendly buses and installing nano solar window film on the largest glass wall of Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre that resulted in reducing the need for air-conditioning. Through a multi-prong approach, we made total energy savings in FY2015 of 122,115GJ, which is equivalent to about 4,500 households’ annual energy consumption in Hong Kong. At the same time, the Group continued to promote environmental awareness and business practices through its network of business partners, suppliers and customers.
  • In managing our talent, we continue to invest in our staff and promote team spirit in order to reinforce our position as an employer of choice. We recorded 164,811 hours of staff training in the reporting year. At the same time, we have introduced new family-friendly measures including setting up a new “Caring Room” in our Corporate Office. This well-furnished facility is designed to provide a comfortable environment for nursing mothers.

The entities covered in the report include the Group’s Corporate Office, Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (Management) Limited, Free Duty, Hip Hing Construction Group (mainly comprised of Hip Hing Construction Company Limited and Vibro (H.K.) Limited), New World Construction Company Limited, New World First Bus Services Limited and Citybus Limited, and New World First Ferry Services Limited.
