The corporate volunteer team of NWS Holdings, NWS Volunteer Alliance, visited Guangzhou last Saturday, 8 November 2008 to celebrate its 7th anniversary and also serve the community together with the corporate volunteer team of New World China, NWCL Volunteer.
A total of 34 members of NWS Volunteer Alliance collaborated with the NWCL Volunteer, paid visits to the elderly residents in Feng Yan Jie in Li Wan District of Guangzhou (廣州荔灣區逢源街) under the arrangement of The Neighbourhood Advice-Action Council. Mr Kwan Chuk Fai, Group Director—Corporate Affairs of New World Development and Mr Kenneth Geng, Regional Director—Southern China of New World China Land joined the visit too.
Members from NWS Volunteer Alliance, NWCL Volunteer as well as the elderly volunteers in Guangzhou formed groups and visited the solitary elderly in Feng Yan Jie. The volunteers remarked their needs and presented them a pack of gift including a blanket, handkerchiefs and low-sugar food; while another group of volunteers stayed at the elderly homes where they enjoyed their time with the elderly. Volunteers from NWS Volunteer Alliance and NWCL Volunteer shared their experiences after the event.
The Guangzhou visit was memorable as it was a celebration of the 7th anniversary of NWS Volunteer Alliance and the second anniversary of NWCL Volunteer. Mr Kwan Chuk Fai and Ms Maria Cheung, Assistant General Manager – Corporate Communication of NWS Holdings, presented awards to the members of “NWS Volunteer Alliance” who recorded the highest number of hours served last year at the Guangzhou Central Park-view.
NWS Volunteer Alliance consists of more than 1,400 members comprising staff and their associates and has devoted over 44,684 hours in community service up to now. It has received Social Welfare Department’s Gold Award for Volunteer Service for seven consecutive years and honoured with a 5 Years Plus Logo Award from the Hong Kong Council of Social Service.
The NWCL Volunteer is the first corporate in Mainland China setting up a volunteer team. The areas it serves include Beijing, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Shenyang, Jinan, etc.
